Visual Merchandising Analysis #1

Good Example of Window Display

In my opinion, I believe that this is an example of a good window display. While some people would think that this Coach display is quite simple, it is very visually pleasing. This display portrays great formal balance along with a calming feel due to the neutral colored clothing used. The light fixtures around the display are a great way to grab the shoppers attention. The lighting helps put your focus on the clothing, making them really pop and become the focal point. Overall, this display expresses a very sleek and modern look.

Bad Example of Window Display

I believe this store’s window display is a poor example. This window display seems to be portraying an informal balance. The stacked objects on top of the televisions are also creating tension in this display. When I look at this window it feels chaotic and cluttered to me, almost like my eyes aren’t sure what to focus on. My eyes do tend to gravitate toward the awkward blank space right in the middle of the display rather than any of the clothing. To me this display doesn’t feel balanced or consistent, and it definitely wouldn’t grab my attention as a shopper.

This display is very simple, and to some there might not be enough going on, but in my opinion it looks very elegant and tasteful. The simplicity of this as well as the color black used, makes it look very luxurious and mysterious. The use of only a couple garments and accessories will make customers curious of what else they have, which will lure them into their store. This display is balanced extremely well and uses good repetition, especially with the purses. The lighting used makes sure that the apparel and accessories displayed are the focal point. This display is very professional and to customers I’m sure looks very formal while walking past.

Gucci Window Display in Milan | SENATUS

This window really grabbed my attention because of the bright orange background, I believe that it really emphasizes the outfits displayed. Also, I found the type of lighting really makes the garments more bright and appealing. This display is very well balanced. By including the same amount of mannequins on each side of the display, it makes it very well proportioned. The colors within the garments create great rhythm within the display. There is a sense of wholeness and unity.

This window display really grabbed my attention due to the unique and bright lighting used. The red floor along with the pink lights creates really great contrast and makes the merchandise pop. The unique colors of the merchandise also make it eye catching to customers. This display looks quite fancy and displays very good balance with the mannequins used.

This Tory Burch display is amazing in my eyes, and was even considered the best fall window in 2017. The colors blend very well with the overall theme of the window. The earthy and neutral tones compliment the warm outdoorsy/prairie look. The willow like leaves and the different height of hills in the background, create subtle texture within the display. The same type of floral pattern used creates repetition and harmony, and the slightly different hue of rust orange makes it unique. I like how this window looks luxurious but also more casual like with the warmer touches used.

Good Example of Window Display

This is a good example of a window display because it is attention grabbing. The use of jeweltones makes this display very bright and appealing to the customer’s eye. While there are many different bright colors used, they compliment each other and make the merchandise really pop. There is great balance portrayed within this display, including the similar styles of merchandise on the ends of the display, the same textured background, and the same color of mannequin used. The different display boxes really emphasizes each individual outfit.

I believe this window display is a great one due to the earthtones used as well as the neutrals. The neutrals of the background blend extremely well with the earthtone, rust, of the merchandise and accessories. The use of realistic props makes the display very different as well as creating good texture within. The reason I chose this display is because of the tension used. Will the bag topple over while sitting on that small block of stone? This will make customers and shoppers remember this display because tension brings surprise and memorability.

Fashion Window Displays - Best Window Displays

I believe this display is an example of a good one. The background and shape of the window leads the customer’s eyes to the mannequins and merchandise. The background and floor also creates a great sense of texture to the display, making it very unique compared to others. The use of neutral and somewhat earthy tones in each outfit create great harmony. The simplicity of the display makes it appear very luxurious and professional, making it quite appealing. Also, the bright lighting makes it very eye catching and makes the garments pop.

Visual Merchandising Analysis #2

Good Window Display

This window is what I would consider to be a good display. While the background of the display is very simple, with no decorations of any sort, I believe it draws your attention to the merchandise even more and the three mannequins fill the space perfectly. Also, the bright lighting used on the borders of the display really make the garments pop. I feel that the display presents a more luxurious and mature atmosphere. The earthy and neutral like colors of the merchandise complement each other very well, bringing harmony and unity to the display. Additionally, placing the two mannequins with similar outfits and hats on at each end creates great balance. This display presents a more mysterious feeling with it being so simple, leading me to believe that customers will be drawn to the store out of curiousness.

Bad Window Display

I would say that this display is an example of a terrible one. This is probably one of the worst displays I have ever seen. The background of the display looks very sloppy, the fabric in the background doesn’t even cover the decorations or the merchandise. Also, the garments are somewhat urban streetwear which is completely different from the rural decorations used. In this display, there is really no sense of harmony or unity used. Overall, I believe that this display looks extremely unprofessional and could potentially push customers away from entering their store and viewing their merchandise.

Career Experience & Strengths

Having worked retail for the past five years has really shaped me personally and professionally. It has shown me how important and helpful it is to work in a team oriented environment. Also, those years have also given me a good amount of experience in customer service, which is essential in the fashion industry. My retail experience has provided me with many strengths including organization, good communication skills, and the ability to multitask. All of these skills will help me succeed in the workplace.

Career Goals

I have always had an interest in Fashion because it was a way for me to get creative and express myself. When it comes to my career goals, I hope to end up in a large city and to work in a corporate office for a popular fashion company. I would love to be a Buyer for a company and be able to select specific pieces, work with designers, and attend fashion shows. Also, another dream of mine would be to open my own store or boutique in the future.

Visual Merchandising Analysis

Within my blog I will be analyzing various fashion window displays, including knowledge I have learned from my Fashion Promotion course. It will be interesting to see the thought process from the different stores and to see how unique each particular display is.
